Privacy Policy

(We know you'll never read it, but here it comes.)

1. On the Personal Data being Collected and Used

Premise: No personal data need be given to play E.B.O.N.Y.. Thus, if players provide us personal data, it is considered a voluntary action.
No personal data are being collected or used automatically. With the exception detailed under (2., 3., 6., 7. and 8.), no personal data are being collected manually. With the exception detailed under (3., 6. and 7.), no personal data are being used manually.

2. On Social Media and E.B.O.N.Y. Related Websites

In case you visit any social media or website related to E.B.O.N.Y. (e.g. Facebook page, Discord), your personal data may be learnt by others, including the developers of E.B.O.N.Y.. Consult the Privacy Policy of the corresponding site for further details.

Nevertheless, with the exception detailed under (6.), no personal data obtained in this way are being used for any reason.

The developers of E.B.O.N.Y. cannot and shall not take any responsibility for any misuse of personal data performed by other parties.

3. On Emails and Other Forms of Private Communication

In case of contacting the developers of E.B.O.N.Y. via email or any other application (e.g. Messenger), the related and attached personal data are automatically being given. (This means: if you email us, we will know your email address. If your signature contains your phone number, we will know your phone number, too. It is self-explanatory, isn't it?)

Nevertheless, with the exception detailed under (6.), (7.) and as follows, no personal data obtained in this way are being used for any reason.

In case of an email address is given to the developers expressing being interested in E.B.O.N.Y., occasional emails may be sent to the related email address. Reaching a Temporary End is a way of expressing interest. These emails are infrequent and contain only E.B.O.N.Y. related information. The claim of this action is the safe assumption that the one who gave their email address may be interested in E.B.O.N.Y. related news, for example the arrival of some new content. Since no email address need be given for visiting any page of https://ebonyriddle.com, sending an email is considered a voluntary action from a player.

Email addresses are being stored in a separate file, on personal computers. The owners of these take every reasonable action to protect these data.

4. On The Nature of Playing E.B.O.N.Y.

For playing E.B.O.N.Y., players are frequently to visit external websites. (Revealing the identity of these sites would obviously spoil the game, but, commonly known sites, such as Google, Wikipedia or YouTube are among them.)

Players are to be aware of the fact that the visited websites may collect personal data on them - consult the Privacy Policy of the site in question on further details.

Players are also to be aware of the fact that the device they use for playing E.B.O.N.Y. may collect data on the sites they are visiting. According to the settings of the device used, these data may be seen by other people, too. The developers cannot and shall not take any responsibility for any issues or consequences related to their playing activities. (For example, if a player gets fired because of playing E.B.O.N.Y. at their workplace, and it becomes known because some egghead IT-guy has been monitoring what they have been doing on their computer, well, obviously, it is not our fault.)

The developers of E.B.O.N.Y. are to point out that for playing E.B.O.N.Y., it is never required to visit any external website of one or more properties as follows:

a. sites whose content is only available after registration,
b. sites with paid content (unless the information needed for E.B.O.N.Y. is available for free, as well),
c. sites presenting adult or offensive content,
d. unsafe sites,
e. sites that are parts of the Dark Web.

Due to this, the developers of E.B.O.N.Y. cannot and shall not take any responsibility for any damages caused by visiting websites while playing E.B.O.N.Y. (It is to be noticed that any attempts for solving a level leading to any site detailed above can be automatically considered a wrong attempt!)

5. On JavaScript

Although it does not belong to Privacy Policy directly, it is worth pointing out that certain pages of E.B.O.N.Y. use JavaScript. This addition may be considered by certain anti-malware software harmful, that is why it disables it automatically. In E.B.O.N.Y., JavaScript is being used for absolutely safe purposes, such as displaying randomized content or redirecting players automatically. (In the rare case of an automatic redirection to an external site, no destination site falls into any category detailed under (4.). A warning informs the players if JavaScript cannot run; in this case consult the settings of the browser/anti-malware software used.

6. On The Players' Nicknames

With the exception of (7.), the only data being used in E.B.O.N.Y. collected from the players are their nicknames. This may happen in the following three cases.

a. By (partially) completing the game, players can send the developers an email to inform them about the fact. The nickname - and only the nickname may be added to a separate list ("Hall of Fame") showing the developers' congratulation.
b. By filling out the form on the corresponding page (if there is any), the same action can be performed. If the form is used, only the nickname of the player will be submitted (alongside with the date and time of submission), without any other personal data.

c. In case of a regular correspondence of any form about the game of E.B.O.N.Y., players' nicknames - and only nicknames might be collected and used in E.B.O.N.Y., as additional content. (Such as egg-pages or minor characters; in the latter case no character shall be a violent or offensive one, unless this is especially desired by the player in question.) Players, due to the nature of E.B.O.N.Y., are not essentially informed about this fact, and the chance for being added to the game is low. Nevertheless, should any player object to be a part of E.B.O.N.Y., they are free to do so.

In case of nicknames, active consent is not asked for, because
- a. any nickname can be given by the players and nicknames will never be backtracked whether they are actually real,
- b. nicknames, due to (a.) provide insufficient information to reveal the identity of any player,
- c. no other data are being used,
- d. a nickname is considered data willingly provided by the player (which actually happens out of the page of E.B.O.N.Y.); its use can be prevented by ...not contacting the developers or not sending along a nickname,
- e. no real names or supposedly real names are being used for any reason (unless a player uses his/her real name as nickname or explicitely asks the developers to use his/her real name).

7. On The Contact Form

The players are free to contact the developers of E.B.O.N.Y. to inform them about potential bugs of the game or giving them ideas. The dedicated surface for this, the Contact page can be found here.

The Contact page contains a form which asks for two types of data: the player's nickname (Username) and an email address. Since filling out the form is considered a voluntary action, sharing these types of data is considered a voluntary action, as well. The developers, if they find the shared information especially valuable, may mention the nickname - and only the nickname - of the player on some page of E.B.O.N.Y. Players, due to the nature of E.B.O.N.Y., are not essentially informed about this fact and it is not guaranteed that any player's name will be actually added. (E.g., if the developers use the idea of a certain player for a level, it would be known instantly that his/her idea had been used, which would spoil the level itself!) Nevertheless, should any player object to be nick-named, they are free to do so.

If a player contacts the developers via email or any other surfaces (e.g., Discord) for the same reasons described above in this point, the same data controlling policy shall be applied. (Due to the nature of the used surface, the email address may be replaced with another type of data, e.g., Discord username.)

8. Other Data Given By The Players Voluntarily

It may happen that the developers announce via any E.B.O.N.Y.-related website that players can be a part of E.B.O.N.Y. in a form, such as impersonating characters in the form of photos sent away by them. Any data obtained in this form are considered voluntarily shared, therefore no additional consent is asked from the players.

It is not guaranteed that any data collected in this way will ever be used in the E.B.O.N.Y., but if so, the affected players will be informed about this fact.

The data collected in this way may be stored until the developers are requested by the players provided them to delete them.

No data collected in this way will ever be used for any other purpose.

The developers of E.B.O.N.Y. cannot confirm the authenticity of any data collected in this way, therefore the player providing the data shall be responsible for any damages caused by the use of data. Should any person learn that their personal data has been used unbeknownst of them in E.B.O.N.Y., the developers are to delete the data in question promptly having been informed about this fact (see (13.) for further details).

9. On Watercolor

Watercolor, which is a sub-page of E.B.O.N.Y., is considered an abandoned project right now. It is, on the other hand, still available, only for providing some fun. According to our knowledge, Watercolor does not break any law. Read here more about the topic.

10. On Third Parties.

E.B.O.N.Y. never gives personal data to any third party. Period.

11. On Cookies (Cookie Policy)

Similar to almost all other websites, E.B.O.N.Y. uses cookies.

Cookies are small text files sent to the electronic devices of the visitors (players). Cookies may contain personal data (e.g. visiting history), too, but never contain information that can be used for identifying the visitor. On the other hand, these cookies help provide better experience for the visitors. The information may refer to the visitor's preferences, the device used by the visitor, or to ensure the expected operation of the webpage.

These cookies are working automatically. They are stored on the device used for accessing the webpage (e.g. your computer); the developers of E.B.O.N.Y. are unable to access them. To disable cookies, consult your Internet browser. If the cookies are disabled, the performance of the website may decrease.

On this website, the following sorts of cookies are being used:

a. Necessary cookies, which are responsible for the correct operation of the website,
b. Analytical cookies, which give information how the visitors use the webpage (in case of E.B.O.N.Y., this gives the developers information on the activities of the players and help them improve the game. E.g. if the developers learn that a certain wrong answer for a level appears to be logical for several players, they can add a page to give a hint for the real answer.)
c. Functional cookies, which may enable special functions of the website.

Certain cookies (session cookies) are stored on the device used for visiting the website until the browser is closed; others (persistent cookies) stored on the device for a definite time.

E.B.O.N.Y. does not use marketing cookies.

12. On Data Breach

Since it has been explained above that no personal data has been collected except for the case when players willingly and actively give them away, the chance of any data breach is minuscule. If and when it still happens, players will be informed about the fact on the website and all the personal data that has not included in E.B.O.N.Y. by then will be deleted.

13. Further Rights of Players

a. The Right to be Informed - Players have the right to be informed about all the facts related to data controlling and processing, in a clear and legible form. This page contains all relevant information.
b. The Right to Access - Players have the right to receive feedback on the way how their personal data are being controlled, by sending the developers an email.
c. The Right to Rectification - Players have the right to ask the developers to correct their personal data, including their nicknames, via email.
d. The Right to Erasure - Players have the right to make a request for deleting their personal data, including their email address, nickname or any other personal data provided by them, by sending the developers an email. (If the email address is required to be deleted, the whole conversation with the player concerned will be deleted, which may hinder further communication.) Erasure is to take place without further notice if the data is not used in the future, if the player withdraws his/her consent or if it has been proved that the data controlling has been illicit.
e. The Right to Restrict - Players have the right to make a request for restricting the way how their data are being used, via email. This fact is pointed out in every email with more than one recipient (typically news about E.B.O.N.Y.).
f. The Right to Legal Remedy - If a player presumes that the data controlling happens improperly or in an illicit way, they have the rights to contact us by using the contact email address found on the Webpage to achieve a mutual agreement and/or to dispute further actions. It is to be pointed out, that in the vast majority of cases, besides email addresses and nicknames, no personal data are being controlled.

14. On the Future Changes of Privacy Policy

If this Privacy Policy is changed, it will be announced on the website promptly.

15. Gathering Ideas for E.B.O.N.Y.

The developers may gather thoughts and ideas from E.B.O.N.Y.-related webpages for developing the game, without informing the visitors, users or members of the webpages in question. This is happening in this way due to the nature of E.B.O.N.Y.; if the developers use someone's idea for a level, it would be known instantly that his/her idea had been used, which would spoil the level itself. This sort of data collecting does not involve any personal data and it is not performed on the webpage of E.B.O.N.Y., therefore, it is out of the scope of this privacy policy.

16. On Other Questions and Issues

Frankly, on what? We are not collecting any personal data unless you send us something over. We do not have any marketing activities. There is no registration, either.

In other words: if you are playing E.B.O.N.Y., we know literally nothing about you unless you contact us in any form.

Just enjoy the game!
